— Our Methodology —

How work flows through the Vervelle bench

Every piece that enters the workshop is assessed and photographed before any service work begins. The arrival assessment produces a written condition note that describes the state of the case, crystal, bracelet, crown, and — where visible without disassembly — the movement. This document is what we compare against when the piece is ready for collection.

Scope is agreed before work begins. If the job runs to the listed description, the price is as published. If we find a secondary issue during disassembly, we write to the owner with the finding and await a decision before continuing.

Every completed job leaves the workshop with at least one written document: a timing report for movement service work, a condition sheet for refinishing, or a photographic record and conservation note for vintage restoration.

Vintage Restoration Programme

A bench programme for pieces from the 1930s to the 1970s where parts are scarce and originality matters. Covers movement rebuilding, in-house fabrication of small components, dial preservation, and sympathetic case work that keeps period markings intact. The programme runs eight to fourteen weeks depending on part sourcing. Owners receive a photographic record of every stage, a parts provenance list, and a conservation note describing which decisions were reversible.

  • Full movement rebuilding with in-house component fabrication
  • Dial preservation — period markings kept intact
  • Sympathetic case work, no character removed
  • Photographic record of every bench stage
  • Parts provenance list and conservation note

— Bench Protocols —

Standards that apply to all three services

Client data security

Contact details and watch information are held securely and used only in connection with your job. Not shared with third parties.

Timing machine verification

All serviced movements are tested on a timing machine in five positions before leaving the bench.

Written scope agreement

Cost and scope are confirmed in writing before any work begins. Changes found during the job are communicated before we proceed.

Correct lubricants only

We use lubricants matched to each friction point type. No general-purpose substitutes that degrade at the wrong rate.

Photographic records kept

Images from the arrival assessment and bench stages are kept on file for twelve months from collection.

Reversibility documented

For vintage work, we note which decisions were reversible in the conservation note, so future owners and watchmakers know what was done and how.
